This major classroom addition to an existing school for early childhood education included a new multipurpose room and commons, faculty collaboration spaces, resource rooms for teachers, and restroom facilities. Classrooms included the latest technology configurations available. The building construction consists of steel joists and non-load bearing masonry. Exterior materials were selected from a simplified palette on the existing exterior to visually merge the old and new facades. Floors are a mixture of carpet and vinyl composition tile. To help address sustainability goals, durable materials were used throughout the project. Building materials are low maintenance and long lasting.
The project required planning, design, and construction to be synchronized with the school district academic calendar. RNN Architects prepared drawings and specifications for the contractor to begin work the day after school dismissed for the summer. RNN Architects uncommon collaborative / anticipatory issue resolution process with the contractor was very effective in completion of the project before the first day of school in early fall.
