This two-story building, approximately 5,000 square feet, included primary functions for Public Health (Level 1), and for Human Services (Level 2) with common use functions for Public Health and Human Services on both levels. The County pursued grant funding from DOLA and high-performance designs were implemented to achieve either LEED Gold or Green Globes (3 Globes). Construction began in March 2020. These sustainable strategies were implemented on the HHS renovation project by including concepts such as reducing consumption of resources (energy, water, and waste during construction and operation), ensuring efficient operations and maintenance through commissioning, maximizing indoor environmental quality, using healthy materials and increasing mobility that reduces commuter travel in single-occupant vehicles. Optimizing collaborative spaces, labs and core staff spaces through thermal comfort, material selection, daylight and direct line of site to the outdoors was key to creating more productive and healthy occupants. Studies have found an increase in employee performance in healthier buildings.
